CDM Smith is thrilled to announce an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Client Service Leader.

This role focuses on fostering client engagement and spearheading business development initiatives for water consulting and engineering services targeting municipal clients in southern Ontario.

With a proud legacy spanning over 75 years in the municipal infrastructure domain, CDM Smith has consistently delivered on large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects across North America.

We are seeking a dedicated professional to continue this legacy and play a pivotal role in our long-term investment strategy for Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

As a vital member of our team, the Client Service Leader will be instrumental in achieving CDM Smith’s goals by undertaking the following duties:

  1. Strategic Client Engagement:
    • Develop and execute innovative strategies and pursuit plans to secure new opportunities in water, wastewater, and environmental projects across Ontario.
    • Align the company’s firm-wide objectives with localized business development activities to create cohesive growth plans.
  2. Financial Oversight: Oversee the financial performance of projects within the assigned client portfolio, ensuring profitability and efficient resource allocation.
  3. Industry Advocacy: Actively represent CDM Smith within professional and industry organizations to enhance visibility and establish thought leadership.
  4. Team Leadership: Assemble and guide client-focused and project-specific teams to successfully meet client expectations and project deliverables.
  5. Proposal Development: Lead and manage proposal efforts, including crafting technical approaches and delivering compelling presentations to potential clients.
  6. Sales Process Implementation: Utilize CDM Smith’s Sales Delivery Process and associated tools to drive proactive sales strategies and client interactions.
  7. Negotiations: Engage in critical negotiations with clients, teaming partners, and subconsultants to solidify project terms and partnerships.
  8. Technical Leadership: Provide high-level technical expertise and serve as a senior lead on projects, ensuring quality delivery and meeting billable hour targets.
  9. Budget Management: Oversee business development budgets and monitor associated costs to ensure financial discipline.
  10. Talent Acquisition: Assist in recruiting and onboarding local office staff to strengthen team capabilities and address market demands.
  11. Collaboration: Maintain routine coordination with other area client service leaders and internal business units to align with broader business objectives.
  12. Standardized Practices: Implement and adhere to CDM Smith’s standardized business protocols to maintain consistency and operational efficiency.
  13. Training and Development: Complete the company’s comprehensive training program within six months of onboarding, achieving all requisite certifications for the Client Service Leader role.
  14. Core Values: Uphold and exemplify CDM Smith’s Core Values in all professional undertakings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • A valid Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally as required. Travel frequency is subject to the specific responsibilities and demands of the role.
  • Equivalent directly related experience may be considered as a substitute for a formal degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 15 years of specialized experience in municipal water or wastewater projects following the attainment of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven track record of winning and managing water and wastewater projects within the greater Ontario market.
  • Strong relationships with key stakeholders in the Ontario water market, including water and wastewater clients.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, time management, and active listening skills.

Travel Requirement: Approximately 5% travel may be required for this position.
